I remember my first view at a committee meeting of this kind back in high school in Colorado. I could not believe how unorganized everything was and just how long it took the committee members to actually get to the voting. Staffers, reporters, other people were just milling around talking and talking while it seemed the committee members were trying to talk. Then, once the bill was finally voted on, that was it -- with little fanfare and no feeling of: eureka! it passed. I strongly urge an “aye” vote on SB412. As we learned in Oxnard, Long Beach, and other California communities, imported LNG is a highly controversial fossil fuel with profound environmental impacts. A huge source of the controversy is that the threshold question – “Do we Need LNG?”—has never been answered by any state agency in a transparent manner. SB412 would provide that opportunity before California commits to this new dependence on foreign fossil fuels.
