Life is back to normal and it’s just Tim and I in the house now. We had a slew of friends come and visit the last two weeks. It started with Tim’s friend Rahul who decided on a last minute trip to get out of dodge and came to visit us, then my girlfriend Jenne and her husband Tom for their anniversary, Tim’s friend Aaron who was moving to Napa for culinary school, my friend Tod who is leaving for the Peace Corps in a couple of weeks and came to say good-bye before he leaves and we also got to see Aaron’s girlfriend Aparna (sp? – sorry, I know I spelled that incorrectly) who came to see Aaron. It’s been a busy summer.
What Tim and I learned from all of our visitors and going sightseeing is that because Tim drives to work and I bus it, the San Francisco we each know is different. Tim knows all the places outside of downtown San Francisco and I know the city better, or at least whatever is accessible by the #1, #2, and #38 buses. So when we talk about San Francisco and what we’ve done and seen it sounds like two different places. Our collective knowledge gets us around pretty well. If we’re out on our own we’re screwed.
We're looking forward to our next guests - my mom and her husband Stuart in October. Until then Tim and I will try to get out and see more of the city and learn more of each other's San Francisco.

Bussing it
It's been a while since we've posted so while I write up what we've been up to for the last couple of weeks I'll do this fast post on the sights and sounds of the bus.
On the #38 to downtown San Francisco. I heard a click, click, click behind me - someone was cutting their finger nails! At least I hope it was their finger nails.
On the #2 to downtown San Francisco. On the bus with Jenne and Tom. We plunk down and Jenne sits in front of...let's call her crazy white lady. I was in a seat across from them - eyes forward. I have learned that there are some...lets say crazy people on the bus and if you start to talk to them you're stuck until your stop. I did not mention this bus strategy for survival to Jenne and Tom and so...Jenne mentions jokingly about her fear on the shiatsu massage we were going to get later that afternoon. Crazy white lady begins to engage Jenne in a conversation about the dangers of deep tissue massage and soon got comfortable enough with Jenne to let her know that the best thing for her lower back would be for Jenne to lose 5-10 pounds. That bus ride felt like forever and Jenne, being Jenne, just kept talking to crazy white lady. I know I mentioned before that people in San Francisco were friendly but this wasn't really friendly it was crazy. Friendly and crazy - it's a fine line.
Seattle bus - it's a good one so I need to mention it. I get on the bus to go to school one day and I hear a women in the back of the bus in deep conversation. I realize that she's on the phone and she's talking to her boyfriend and having a fight. I had my Ipod on so I could drown out her conversation, which was LOUD. I start to curse people who talk on the phone while on the bus - major faux pas on bus ettiquette.
As we go from stop to stop, her conversation is like a soap opera and I turn off my Ipod. Basically, this is how her conversation went:
"you don't love me"
"how could you cheat on me"
"I'm pregnant" - I am not making this up
"It's too bad your child won't get to know you"
"I'm seeing someone else"
"You will never get to see your child"
and then she got off the bus!
As soon as she got off everyone in the bus turned around to take a look at her. I learned from the person in front of me that I missed the best part. Several bus stops before I got on bus girl mentioned that her boyfriend that cheated on her and is the father of her child that he will never see that she'll raise with her current boyfriend is...IN JAIL!
I am not making any of this up. The person in front of me had to put her book away because the conversation bus girl was having was getting too engrossing and much more interesting than her book.
If your life ever gets too boring, just get on the bus.
